About

I am Yusuf Yamak, an embedded software engineer working on embedded systems, operating systems, computer architecture, and hardware security, and a PhD researcher in Computer Engineering at Hacettepe University.

Most of my engineering work revolves around embedded systems projects at the intersection of software and hardware. I have experience in building embedded Linux systems using Yocto, Buildroot, and LFS methods; developing low-level and user-space software in C and C++; Zynq SoCs; STM32 and NXP family microcontrollers; and developing Qt/QML-based applications.

In addition, in my PhD studies, I am working on the design of a secure-by-default, RISC-V-based SoC for constrained IoT systems. I am interested in topics such as authenticated boot, hardware-rooted device identity, DICE, trusted execution, hardware-enforced runtime integrity, and control-flow protection. I also work on Hardware Abstraction Layer design, bootloader design, and RTOS support for the SoC I designed. For Zephyr RTOS support, I work on layers such as devicetree and Kconfig definitions, the development of various CMake scripts, the development of the required drivers, and the modification of necessary parts of the kernel, such as the context-switching mechanism. Furthermore, as part of my PhD studies, I am also interested in topics such as side-channel analysis, fault injection, and firmware analysis.

I plan for this website to become a platform where I publish the experiences I have gained through my engineering and PhD work, practical experiments, research notes, and open-source work.
